Discovery time

Last two Fridays i.e. on 1st September 2017 & 8th September 2017, we had discovery sessions in the classrooms of Kowhai team (Year 0 and Year 1). During discovery time, children are offered various activities to choose from in different classrooms. They can choose the activities they wish to do first and thereafter they can either stay there for the whole session or can move to another classroom for a different activity.
On 1st September, they had activities like floating and sinking (Room 27), making paper chain snakes, Father’s day cards, pop up cards, dancing and go noodle.

Some of the pictures of floating and sinking activity session are below –

Firstly, they watched a video about which things float and which things sink in water and the reason behind it. Then, I asked them to guess which items among the leaves, wooden sticks, a rock, beads, lego blocks, etc would float or sink. Lastly, they tried themselves whether the items they guessed floated or sank.

On 8th September, the activities on offer were making paper boats and planes (room 27), making pictures, all about shapes, jewellery making, building – blocks, etc, construction and puzzles.

Here are some of the clicks of the amazing time we all had during discovery session last week –
